Since 2012 we have trialled a new project of placing destitute children and women in private accommodation rather then in institutions and orphanages. We provide them with shelter, food, clothing, medical assistance and education.
Each child is placed within a family unit and where applicable mother and siblings are not separated from any individual child. We have found that keeping the family intact in a homely atmosphere is conducive to a child’s emotional and educational well being as well as ensuring a positive adjustment in all aspects of life.
In exchange each widow and older children where possible must do some vocational training or basis education. This ensures their future and puts them on the road to self sufficiency. Each widow or carer must give an undertaking that the younger children are sent to local schools and that no child is sent out onto the streets to beg or be placed in moral danger.
Regular monthly checks are made by our staff and the children’s progress is monitored closely.
Most of our children particularly the girls have excelled in their studies, and improvement in their emotional and physical well being has been miraculous.
So many of Afghanistan’s widows and children who are destitute on the streets, or living in the squalor of the tent cities on the outskirts of Kabul, dream of a similar opportunity.

Many families are caught in the trap of drug addiction particularly fathers. Families not only suffer abject poverty and violence but also are often heart broken when dealing with the disintegration of a loved one. The sense of hopelessness and despair are two fold for these impoverished families.
Orphans At Risk has commenced a program where we assist the addicted person (usually men and teenage boys) with medical and counselling programs as well as their families. There must be a willingness and motivation by the addicted person to assist him with our support. There is no judgement as one can never know what led a person to addiction. However, there must be genuine effort made by the addicted person including non violence towards loved ones. We have successfully trialled this program and the good results are evident.
We need considerable funding and support from those best able to assist on a regular basis. Our vision is to obtain corporate donation on an ongoing bases.
You would greatly assist by a general donation as well as assisting us to obtain corporate support if possible. A regular donation from $100 a month to support an addicted person and family will work miracles.
Please help to sustain these projects either on a regular basis or by generous donation. Email at info@orphansatrisk.org
In a country torn apart by conflict these children suffer ten fold as a result of their disability. They often experience among other things Indifference, Isolation , Discrimination, Abandonment.
Your direct sponsorship to one of these children of $50 a month will give HOPE and EDUCATION.
Orphans At Risk policy is not to encourage individual sponsorship except for these special children who survive against all odds with hope in their hearts. They are the ones in most need of personal sponsorship.
If you wish to sponsor one of these children please email us for further details and discussion.
On almost every street throughout Afghanistan the aftermath of war, terror and poverty has produced a child not only in poverty, but disabilities of many kinds. Many mothers are left traumatised as a result of the dreadful environment and abuse they have suffered.

An estimated 3.7% of the Afghan population suffers various forms of disabilities. Many of these disabilities are a result of lost of limbs and eyesight as a result of war.
In the harsh realities of Afghanistan the welfare of these children and women are not considered a priority for those who struggle themselves, or by authority or organisations that are overwhelmed by many other issues
Orphans At Risk cannot turn away and these blessed ones need our help to show these is hope in an otherwise cruel world.
Our vision is to integrate these children and women into their communities by programs personalised around their needs. For example, a child who is bedridden or a mother who has mental health issues so extreme she cannot care for her family, need immediate medical assistance and emotional support.
Our vision is to set up systems where home visits and home assistance are given at all levels. Special education programs are needed to give these children a future. We do no believe in institutionalising these children or women ( unless they are a danger to themselves and others) but much support is needed to shower them with our humanity and compassion.
Let us aspire to be more for the sake of these children and women. A measure of our humanity and our civilisation can be assessed on how we help or ignore those in these unfortunate situations.
The problem is huge and we seek your support in obtaining corporate donation to continue to grow this work.
The children are often examples of how hope can sustain the human spirit when precious little remains. The radiance on their beautiful faces despite much trauma is a humbling experience to those more fortune. That is their gift to us.
Please join with us to give them back something in return. info@orphansatrisk.com
We are aiming to raise the sum of $10,000 by the end of year 2020 to enable us to obtain bigger premises, more sewing machines, cloth and payment for further training. We want local contracts to produce goods and services within Afghanistan.
Some of the widows and older girls supported by Orphans At Risk will forme a Sewing Circle as their vocational focus.

The enterprise will be established in a private home and the women meet on a daily bases to learn dressmaking and pattern making and small business courses.
We will have on board a well educated and professional tutor who will be very skilful in this area. The aim is to train the women to run the program and business themselves, in the long term. They provide clothing for local people, shops and schools. Wherever possible we will use cloth made in Afghanistan, local designs and all the work is performed by the women involved.
This project is a local initiative supporting local communities by cooperation and involvement. Orphans At Risk derives no benefit from this project – it is not a sweat shop to produce goods for the West for profit. This enterprise, in the long term will be owned by Afghan women, to support themselves and their families. Any profits go back into the business for business extension and financial support for the families involved.
We vision that these small Co-operations can be established throughout rural Afghanistan in particular in the small scale clothing industry, and office support enterprises. Please give us your ideas and time, and wherever possible financially support to maintain this enterprise.
The women and older girls derive much emotional support and camaraderie from the sewing circles of Kabul, but just as importantly they regain dignity and a sense of purpose to enable them to move away from the traumas of the past into a brighter future.
Be part of this joyful enterprise.

Orphans in Afghanistan are exposed to extreme situations of violence, abuse, displacement, child labour, lack of education and forced marriage. The increased unsafe incidents are causing an alarming rise in child casualties in their everyday life. Both girls and boys as young as 5 years old are exposed to hazardous labour practices, contact with landmines, and violence at home.
